Extreme Heavy Duty (EHD) Steel CVD Driveshafts – 6mm Bearing Platform
With 12mm Red 7075-T6 Hex Hubs | Traxxas 1/10 4×4 (see full compatibility list below)
Cobra Racing’s Extreme Heavy Duty (EHD) Steel CVD Driveshafts are built for high-load 1/10 4×4 applications where standard driveline components reach their limits. Designed around a larger 6mm bearing platform, this system increases strength, bearing support, and overall drivetrain durability compared to traditional 5mm CVD setups.
These CVDs are engineered for aggressive bashing, heavier wheel and tire combinations, and all-weather use — while maintaining smooth power delivery and long service life.
Note: These EHD CVDs are designed for the 6mm bearing platform. Vehicles not factory-equipped (or upgraded) with EHD knuckles/carriers will require them for proper fitment.
EHD Platform Overview – Why 6mm Matters
The foundation of the EHD system is the 6mm bearing architecture.
Most 1/10 4×4 drivetrains rely on 5mm bearings at the outer hubs. While adequate for light to moderate use, 5mm bearings become a limitation under higher loads. The EHD platform increases bearing size to 6mm, providing:
-
Higher load capacity
-
Improved bearing life
-
Reduced flex under torque
-
Greater resistance to side loading and impact forces
The result is a noticeably more stable and durable drivetrain, especially in high-traction or high-impact conditions.
Ultra-Hardened Steel CVD Construction
The EHD CVD shafts are manufactured from ultra-hardened steel, offering significantly greater strength than standard steel or composite alternatives. This material choice allows the shafts to withstand:
-
High-torque brushless systems
-
Repeated shock loads from jumps and landings
-
Heavy rotating mass from larger wheels and tires
-
Extended exposure to dirt, water, and debris
Compared to standard 5mm CVDs, the EHD shafts resist twisting and long-term wear far more effectively.
Included 12mm Hex Hubs – EHD Optimized
This set includes matching red 12mm hex hubs, CNC-machined from 7075-T6 aluminum and designed specifically for the EHD system.
Key benefits:
-
High-strength 7075-T6 aluminum construction
-
Improved resistance to rounding under load
-
Optimized for the increased forces of the EHD drivetrain
-
Clean, precise fit with EHD components
These hex hubs are intended to work as part of a complete EHD solution, not as a generic add-on.
EHD vs Standard 5mm CVD Systems
Standard 5mm CVDs
-
Smaller bearing support
-
Lower load capacity
-
More susceptible to bearing wear and flex
-
Best suited for lighter setups
Cobra Racing EHD 6mm CVDs
-
Larger 6mm bearing platform
-
Increased durability and bearing life
-
Better suited for heavy bashing and high-power setups
-
Designed for long-term reliability
For drivers pushing their vehicles harder, the EHD system addresses the limitations of traditional 5mm designs.
